“I suppose they did what they had to… Humans had always had a pretty bad reputation to dryads… Especially back then.” Pine sighed, walking with the little girl. “But, yes. She had gotten punished for helping me and for lying. Glinda knew that she, as a human, wouldn’t be able to join the clan. So, she pretended to be a cast out member of our rival clan.”

“So what happened? After she was punished, I mean. Di’dja leave the clan? Oh, is that why you’re alone?” Her thoughts ran a mile a minute. Gav jumped onto an uprooted tree and balanced as they followed the trail.

The girl stared down the tree in front of them for a while, then she picked up speed to keep up with the Queen.

“Well… I wouldn’t be able to leave my group.” Pine exhaled, a more strained voice than usual coming through. “I was supposed to be one of the leaders when I went through all of my training, however…” She paused for a long time. “Most dryads in this area - well - they got annihilated. Either by modern technology or by rival clans.”
