“…That is so cool! How come I’ve never seen you in the woods before?” Gavina moved closer to Pine, excitement radiating from her being. The prospect of gaining another friend and ally in the woods caused her to drop her act somewhat in the effort of getting to know Pine better.
“Perhaps you’ve never ventured this far off..?” Pine wondered, still amazed because of the whole ‘meeting royalty’ thing. “Though, Your Highness, do not believe I am to be making assumptions about you!”
The girl nervously kicked her feet around, an old habit she had taken from her mentor when she was with her clan.
Gavina stared in shock for a few moments before a grin slowly grew across her face. She clasped her hands behind her back and stared down her nose at kneeling girl.
“I will forgive this transgression if you state your business and your title immediately.” It had been awhile since someone took her this seriously but the way Pine crouched on the ground frozen was beginning to unnerve Gav.
“You may stand though.”
The girl felt her lengthy black hair fall from her face as she stood slowly. Her movements and expression were robotic, as she figured out a way to state herself.
“I am Phoebe Anne Dryope, a dryad of the Dryope. Born from a pine tree, I took the nickname ‘Pine.’”
Gavina straightened her back and puffed up her chest. There was no way she was going to back down, she was a queen and she had a whole army of friends on her side.
“I am Gavina! Queen of Gravity Falls and the woods surrounding it and I demand to know who you are!” She exclaimed.
She took a moment to study the dark-haired girl. She seemed more scared of Gavina than Gav of her but she wasn’t about to let her guard down.
Pine felt the child’s voice booming within her own body as the words that were spoken were filled with only the presence and pride of royalty. The girl dropped and leaned on her knee, a motion once engraved in her mind during training.
“Your Highness, my apologies!” The girl shouted, her kneel completely still as she was attentive as a soldier.
There are Kings and Queens in this era? This is an honor!
Pine sat in the sun, basking next to the lake as the deer pranced around. She was calm, she was with her friends, and she was enjoying her long, long life. When things wouldn’t go her way, the short, dark-skinned girl remembered, she used to throw tantrums back against the Dyrope clan, her predecessors. But, since they had left-
What was that noise?
All of the animals surrounding perked up their ears.
“Maia, what is it? What is it that you smell?”
The doe turned again and again, her nose twitching and her tail flying up. ‘It’s life. Not an animal.’
Pine stood now, taking a defensive stance and nodding to her friend in a quick, silent ‘thank you.’ All other animals had cleared, leaving a young dryad to defend her home.

There was no real need for defense as the threat was only a child. Gavina stumbled into the clearing, almost falling on her face.
“Stupid root…” She glared at the offending objects before straightening her mask. It was only now that she really took in her surroundings…and the other girl standing a few feet away.
She stepped back instinctively in response to the older girl’s stance but made no move to run.
“…uh”
“Who are y-you?!” The girl squeaked, noticing the mask made of an unknown, white, pointy material.
She seems to be a human child, but I can’t be sure, she could still hold a threat!
Pine adjusted her stance, not wanting to move nearer to the trespasser in fear of an attack from their other tribe memebers. The mask hinted that she could be from the clan that opposed her own, but she couldn’t jump to conclusions, as she had only heard the stories, being trained off where the rest of the Dryopes would meet their fate.

3. A flash of light in the dark.
▲“Other people I would assume…” he looked rather unaffected by the sudden flash in the distance, or by the fact that someone was speaking to him in the woods at night,. It wasn’t really his concern. When your species was at the top of the food-chain, even in human form, one did not tend to react strongly to threats.
“Or… maybe aliens… spirits, hunters, really it could be any number of things. Thereal question is… should I care? The answer most likely being: No.”
The girl felt the fear rising in her chest as she frantically looked around, uncertain of the man’s intent to being rude.
“W-Well… I’ve known these forests for a while now, and I’ve never witnessed,” Pine halted, trying to figure out what to say to the strange man donned in yellow. “This.”
The short girl tried to look unaffected and less innocent than
usual, due to the way the person she had blurted out to reacted. She didn’t want to seem like fresh meat to the man, having doubts about if he were to be good or bad.
▲“You’ve never witnessed…. light?” He looked over in the direction the flash had originated and then back to the creature addressing him. “I hate to tell you but synthetic lighting has been around for quite some time.”
He had been working at something in the dirt but finally looked up. “Unless you mean me… in which care, I suppose it is understandable. Not everyone is privileged enough to gaze upon me- plus you don’t look old enough to have seen many supernatural incidents in your short little lifespan.”
“I… No. Well, not exactly. Fire or lightning, yes, but this… Florescence?” Pine stuttered, anxiously twirling her lengthy hair around her fingers. “I don’t tend to leave my, uhm, area?”The girl stared in the direction of where the orb of white had came from, alert, just how the deer would do so. She anticipated another flash, staring forward, when she had finally registered what the man had said.“I,” She puffed her cheeks. “As a member of the Dyrope family, a pine tree nymph, I have been alive for almost one hundred and two years!”
